The National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce (NPRCC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to support the development of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business expansion throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. by providing a comprehensive resource for incubating business ideas, leveraging new markets, taking advantage of new opportunities, and advocating for policies that help our communities grow. We are the bridge between Puerto Rico and the U.S.
We were founded not only to help build businesses but to sustain them by advocating on behalf of our members, partners, and allies. Our mission is to promote the success of business owners and businesses operating in Puerto Rico and U.S. However, our core philosophy is rooted in the belief that what benefits the overall economy benefits everyone. Therefore, we focus solely on issues that directly impact small businesses and economic development, steering clear of matters beyond our scope. If there is one principle we stand firmly behind, it is economic and business freedom. Whether it concerns taxation, regulation, labor laws, or opportunities for innovation and expansion, we strongly oppose anything that restricts an entrepreneur’s ability to drive economic prosperity. #GrowPR
Our Pillars
Connecting Puerto Rico and Mainland U.S. -
At our core, we remain dedicated to serving as the bridge between Puerto Rico and the mainland U.S. Our goal is to create connections that last, whether that means helping a small business enter a new market, supporting an investor who wants to understand the island’s opportunities, or strengthening partnerships that support local communities. Everything we do aims to make those relationships stronger and more meaningful over time.
Advocacy for Pro-Small Business Legislation -
We understand how much small businesses rely on a legislative environment that gives them room to grow. That is why our advocacy focuses on making sure their needs are heard and reflected in real policy decisions. Whether we are engaging lawmakers in Washington, D.C. or working with leaders in San Juan, we push for measures that support entrepreneurship, remove unnecessary barriers, and protect the interests of the companies that make up our community.
Access to Capital & Grant Funding -
Facilitating Financial Connections: Act as a bridge between local businesses and financial institutions, investors, or grant-making bodies. Supporting partner events such as 'meet the lender' or 'funding fairs' to create networking opportunities.
Information and Education: Amplify partner workshops, seminars, and resources on financial literacy, grant writing, and investment readiness. This helps businesses understand what options are available and how to successfully apply for them.
Advocacy for Favorable Policies: Work with local, state, and federal governments to advocate for policies that increase the availability of funding for businesses. This can include tax incentives for investors, increased funding for grant programs, or more favorable loan terms.
Partnerships for Grant Opportunities: Collaborate with non-profits, government agencies, and other organizations to create or bring more grant opportunities to our communities. This could involve setting up a grant fund specifically targeted at certain sectors or business stages.
Bridging the Technology Gap -
Access to Technology: Ensuring businesses, especially small and local ones, have access to high-speed internet and modern digital tools. This is crucial for them to compete in the increasingly digital marketplace.
Digital Literacy Programs: Partnering with local educational institutions or organizations to offer training and workshops. These programs can enhance digital skills among business owners and employees, which is essential for adapting to new technologies and digital business models.
Supporting Policy Initiatives: Working with local government to support policies that promote closing the tech gap. This can include advocating for improved broadband infrastructure in underserved areas or supporting tax incentives for businesses that invest in digital technologies.
Innovation and Collaboration: Encouraging innovation through digital means, such as virtual business incubators, online networking events, and digital mentorship programs. This can foster a more connected and technologically adept business community.
Community Engagement: Engaging with the broader community to understand their digital needs and challenges. This can help tailor initiatives that are more impactful and effective.
Artificial Intelligence -
Educational Workshops and Seminars: Work with partners and businesses to organize workshops, seminars, and webinars focused on AI education. Providing basic AI knowledge, showcasing the benefits of AI in business, and demonstrating practical applications relevant to small businesses.
Resource Centers: Establish a resource center, either online or physical, where businesses can access information about AI technologies, case studies, and best practices. Offering guidance on implementing AI solutions in different business sectors.
Partnerships with AI Experts and Companies: Collaborate with AI experts, technology firms, or universities to provide expert advice and services. These partnerships can facilitate access to cutting-edge AI tools and professional support for small businesses.
Funding and Grants Information: Provide information on grants, funding opportunities, or incentives available for small businesses looking to adopt AI technologies. Also advocate for governmental support to small businesses in this area.
Intiellectual Property -
The NPRCC has secured official observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), giving our organization access to global forums where international intellectual property (IP) rules and policies are shaped.
Through this affiliation we aim to support our members in safeguarding innovations, trademarks, copyrights, and creative works — helping entrepreneurs protect their intellectual and creative assets worldwide.
We will monitor and contribute to developments in global IP standards, using our voice to advocate for fair and balanced IP regulation that supports economic growth and creative enterprise.
NPRCC will provide guidance, resources, and outreach to our business community about international IP protections, helping them understand when and how to leverage tools such as patent, trademark, or copyright registration under WIPO-governed treaties.
By including intellectual property as a formal pillar, NPRCC underscores its commitment to nurturing innovation, protecting creators and inventors, and enabling sustainable long-term growth across Puerto Rico and the diaspora.
Reshoring of Manufacturing to Puerto Rico -
Promoting Puerto Rico's Tax Incentives: Highlighting programs like Act 60, which offers businesses exporting from Puerto Rico a corporate tax rate of 4% locked in for 15 years, thereby providing a significant financial advantage over mainland U.S. tax rates.
Leveraging Tariff-Free Access: Emphasizing Puerto Rico's unique position as a U.S. territory that allows goods produced on the island to enter the U.S. market without import tariffs, making it an attractive location for companies seeking to avoid international trade barriers.
Showcasing Established Infrastructure and Skilled Workforce: Utilizing Puerto Rico's existing industrial hubs and a proficient workforce to attract industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotech, and electronics, which can benefit from reduced shipping times and operational efficiencies.
Advocating for Infrastructure Improvements: Collaborating with federal and local entities to address challenges like high energy costs and an aging power grid, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective operational environment for manufacturers.
Agricultural Sustainability in Puerto Rico -
Work with leaders in San Juan, and local municipalities to advocate for measures that support agriculture as a vital part of Puerto Rico’s long-term economic strategy and push for its inclusion in broader development plans.
Encourage the government to treat agriculture as a priority sector in both policy discussions and budget decisions.
Advocate for policies that help the island move closer to meeting its own food and subsistence needs.
Work with public and private partners to highlight the importance of investing in local farmers and agricultural innovation.
