Written by the NPR Chamber’s founder and executive director Dr. Justin Vélez-Hagan, The Common Sense behind Basic Economics is an economics primer written as a tool to explain the basics of the “dismal science” in simple and easy-to-understand language, with a dash of humor.

Topics include most of the themes presented in an Econ 101 course, as well as a number of end-of-chapter discussions on the policies relevant to economics today, including a discussion on Puerto Rico’s economic crises. Discounted, autographed copies available to members.

The Paradox of Fiscal Austerity - also by NPR Chamber’s founder and executive director Dr. Justin Vélez-Hagan - explores that way in which governments’ fiscal policy choices have impacted economic growth.

Since the world has gone the way of growing deficits and debt in recent decades, such imbalance has led to numerous worldwide fiscal crises (including in the noted case of Puerto Rico), which has put pressure on policymakers around the globe to find a way to stymie deficits and slow debt through fiscal consolidation policies (a.k.a. austerity). This book explores how such policies have fared and how they can best be implemented when necessary.
