ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • Maintain a clean appearance, demonstrating courteous, professional and ethical behavior, and work cooperatively

  • Continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the emergency medical profession.

  • Render competent patient care in both pre-hospital and inter-facility setting

  • Compliance with all applicable protocols for emergency treatment and transportation as per company policy and/or local agencies

  • Safely operate and maintain an emergency vehicle and compliance with all laws pertaining to the operation of an emergency vehicle

  • Safely operate and maintain all equipment and tools relevant to an EMT

  • Communicate pertinent patient information to other members of the health care profession as needed within HIPAA guidelines

  • Communicate information through the proper “chain of command”

  • Compliance with local, state and regional emergency medical service operations, regulations, and laws

  • Accurately and completely document information required by ( Company ), including EPCRs, Daily Vehicle pre-trip inspection, and Daily Equipment Inventory forms

  • Demonstrate, by attendance and documentation, compliance with ( Company ) and Department of Health requirements for continuing education and licensure

  • Submit all continuing education documentation to ( Company ) Management on a quarterly basis

  • Demonstrate physical ability to perform all tasks required in the performance of duties as an EMT

  • Clean and maintain the cleanliness of (Company ) property, including, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, buildings and surrounding areas

 

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sit and stand for extended periods of time

  • Walk, bend, squat, twist, reach, push, pull, and carry

  • Frequently lift and/or move more than 125 pounds including lifting, moving, and carrying patients up and downstairs

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Completion of an EMT Basic program and acceptance for licensure in the state of employment

  • NREMT

  • One-year related experience preferred

  • Maintain current Valid Driver’s License

  • Maintain, on file, current, and valid EMT Basic/Intermediate Certification

  • Maintain, on file, current and valid CPR (Health Care Provider minimum) certification

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

  • Must be able to read and write in English

 Job Summary:

A paramedic functions as the most extensively trained primary care provider in the pre-hospital setting. The paramedic provides both basic and advanced life support, including comprehensive patient assessment, invasive airway management, cardiac monitoring, and administration of medications.

The paramedic must be a confident leader who can accept the challenge and high degree of responsibility entailed in this position.

The paramedic must have excellent judgment, be able to prioritize decisions and act quickly in the best interest of the patient, as well as directing other team members to assist as needed, along with advanced knowledge in technical skills 

The paramedic must be able to function independently at an optimum level in a non-structured environment that is constantly changing.

The paramedic must be able to remain calm while working in difficult and stressful situations and stay focused while assuming the leadership role inherent in carrying out the functions of the position.

 

The paramedic must possess excellent verbal communication skills and be capable of adapting to situations with violence and emotional instability in multicultural settings.

 

The paramedic must possess critical reasoning and math skills and be capable of applying them effectively in stressful situations. Self-motivation is essential.

 

Must be self-disciplined, able to develop patient rapport, interview patients, maintain safe distance, and recognize and utilize communication unique to diverse multicultural groups and ages within those groups.

 

Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Can interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be at least 21 years of age and be a high school graduate or equivalent 

Must have proof of valid motor vehicle operating license, with continued safe driving history                          

National Registry Paramedic eligible to apply for Florida or South Carolina certification.

NREMTP

Current certifications in AHA, HCP CPR

Valid AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support card

Must have the ability to read in English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, written, oral or diagnostic reports

Must have the ability to write in English  grammatically correct routine reports and correspondence.

Must have the ability to communicate in English positively, via telephone and radio equipment.

Must have the ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, co-workers, and administration

Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret EKG charts.


 Work Environment:

 

Frequently hectic with exposure to highly emotional situations.

Regular scheduling involves long shifts, regularly scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

Frequently works in outside weather conditions

Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts

Occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions, or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock

May be exposed to airborne, blood and body fluids and associated pathogens.

 

Education:

 

High school diploma required to enter a formal emergency medical technician training program.

Have completion of approved curriculum with passing scores on written and practical certification examinations as defined by guidelines   

Must have knowledge and practical application (orally and intravenously) of medications; interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform endotracheal intubations, and use monitors and other complex equipment
